Lean Six Sigma – A Brief History:
Henry Ford utilised the 3 pillars of lean to improve flow, drive out waste and speed up production during the 1920s and the era of the Model T
Lean Methods were originally developed within the automotive industry, notably by Toyota and were aimed at eliminating all forms of process “Waste”
In the 1950s Taichii Ohno & Shigeo Shingo of Toyota, visited Fords US factory to see Lean in action alongside a local convenience store, called PigglyWiggly, who were using a Just in Time (JIT) replenishment system. With these learnings they developed the Toyota JIT production system
Six Sigma methods were developed as a data driven problem solving technique initiated by Bill Smith in the 1980’s at Motorola, with the aim of reducing defects to less than 3.4 per million opportunities.
Lean Six Sigma is used by companies such as;
- Jaguar Land Rover
- Marks and Spencer
and is based on a Belt system. The first level is White Belt which deals with solving problems at a local level. White Belts will connect with higher-tier individuals such as those professionals with a Yellow, Green or Black Belt skillset to solve each problem. Th goal of a White Belt is to understand the fundamental concepts of Lean Six Sigma.
Before you commence with the Yellow Belt training, we will issue you with the White Belt course material for free so that all your employees can start acclimatising to the Lean Six Sigma environment.
Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt Training Courses
This one-day course is aimed at all members of staff within the business.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Training Courses
A five-day course that follows on from the Yellow Belt and is aimed at supervisors and management.
Lean Six Sigma Black Belt Training Courses
The final step in your Lean Six Sigma journey is the five-day Black Belt course.
We only select trainers that have experience in the course subject that they are teaching.
Our training meets all the necessary HSE recommendations where required.
